History & Mission Statement

Our History

Ghana-Lebanon Islamic School Complex (GLIS) was founded in January 2000 and commissioned in May 19, 2001. The school was commissioned by the late Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Aliu Mahama. It started as Ghana-Lebanon Islamic Secondary School (GLISS) with Science and Business as the pioneering programmes. The school is owned by Ghana Islamic Society for Education and Reformation (GISER). GISER established GLIS as part of its corporate social responsibility to the educational empowerment of the Muslim Ummah in Ghana and beyond. By dint of hard work and persistence, GISER again established other sister schools such as Al-Rayan International School (ARIS), Madina Islamic School, College of the Holy Qur’an, and Islamic Teacher Training Institute, all in Accra.

GLIS was established in pursuance of the Society’s objective to provide quality education and unquestionable moral training and discipline to the Muslim youth in Ghana. With the foresight and determination to provide quality education, GISER decided to broaden the academic horizons of the school by introducing some more programmes such as General Arts and Visual Arts.

Currently, GLIS runs the following schools, thus making it a School Complex on the same premises:

  • Primary School
  • Junior High School (JHS)
  • Senior High School (SHS)
  • Evening Arabic and Islamic School for Adults and Young Adults
  • Weekend School for Children

  • Imbibe and appreciate self-discipline, truth, integrity, patriotism and the fear of Allah.
  • Exhibit Islamic virtues and generally acceptable lifestyles.
  • Become role models in their communities and the nation as a whole
